EXIF Data from photos
We don't think much about uploading our photo albums to Facebook. But you would be alarmed to know how much data is embedded in each photo. This 'incidental' data is called meta-data and the biggest source of it are photos.
Combined with other data harvesting techniques such as the very accurate Facial recognition in Facebook, suddenly the EXACT location (within 6 zucking feet) that is recorded in the photo, together with the device serial numbers, and the relationships of people in the photos are now crowd verified by Facebook.
At a family gathering, even if you don't update your Facebook page with photos, the photos taken by others now get added to a database of your activities and your locations.
Check out these online EXIF Viewers to see what meta data can be found in your photos.
