Facial Recognition

Facial Recognition

With the release of iPhone X and it's Facial ID capability, facial recognition is back in the forefront. Samsung now follows with it's own facial recognition and Facebook announces its intent to support facial recognition for logging in to your account.

Once facial recognition is used to identify you beyond your mobile device, or if a mobile device is used to identify you and is shared on the Internet, we have now created an 'implanted chip' in every human being. Our face is our chip.

This has extremely significant implications in the privacy arena because the presence of public cameras and phone cameras pointed at you by other people mean that there will never be an offline for anyone. As long as a camera is pointed at you in normal day to day activities, you are tracked.

This allows your face to also be an index into your social media profile, your IP address, your emails. There will be no place to hide. Privacy will be down to ZERO.

In Russia, an app was created to spot faces in public and this would identify one's profile in the VK app (the Facebook of Russia). This is coming to us as well. Facebook Deep Face which so effectively recognizes people in your photos, is 98% accurate at spotting a face based on publicized results years ago. This means someone will just point a phone at you on the street and will know where you live, how much money you make and who all your friends are.

Currently this is not what Apple's iPhone X does so we have not made that jump yet.
