Intel AMT Vpro

Yes. Intel Inside now means we have a backdoor in most Intel processors sold in the last decade. Referred to as AMT or Management Engine, this 'feature' was intended to enable corporate IT personnel to provide tech support by remotely controlling a person's computer and doing things like reinstalling the entire OS.

This backdoor capability comes from the inclusion of a secondary computer chip that can remotely turn on your computer, give you direct access to the hard drive, reinstall the operating system. It's supposed to be controlled by Intel's proprietary management software.

Why does a non-corporate computer need this feature? Fortunately not all processors have this. It is highly likely that your Xeon, I7, and I5 computers have AMT Vpro. I3's normally do not have it.

But this secretive little feature which Intel includes in a group of features called Vpro, has proven to be vulnerable. As of this writing, a couple hacks have already occurred.

Learn if the computer you own has the AMT chip. Many computers including Mac Book Pro's have AMT.
